It Is Only a Myth That People Cannot Keep Their Original Teeth for a Lifetime

We don't believe that you are destined to wear dentures just because you age. We encourage our patients not to settle for dentures and commit to solid oral health practices. You may be surprised that you can avoid dentures if you do.
How to Keep Your Teeth
Our first piece of advice is to choose to be proactive. Your daily oral health routine determines your long-term success. If you want to avoid dentures, you need to brush your teeth twice a day. Use a soft toothbrush and fluoridated toothpaste to brush your teeth. Gently brush all the surfaces of each tooth as well as your tongue. Floss daily as well, as food debris can get easily lodged between your teeth. It is important to clear away food debris so the bacteria in your mouth does not have a food supply. If the bacteria does munch on your leftover food, it will produce acids that eat away at your enamel and cause tooth decay.
Our next piece of advice is to eat well. Choose foods that will nourish your body as well as benefit your teeth. If your body is nourished, you are less likely to snack. In fact, we suggest eating at mealtimes and not snacking at all. This allows the pH in your mouth to return to the proper level between meals.
We Want to Help You
Lastly, you must maintain your routine cleaning and check-ups. We can help to spot problems that may otherwise go undetected. If the problems worsen, teeth may need to be extracted, which creates a situation where a patient may need dentures. If you do not want dentures, you need to brush and floss your teeth, eat well, and come see us every six months. Give us a call today to schedule your next appointment.
